Over the past ten months, we’ve embarked on an extensive refurbishment journey at Champagne Castle Hotel. Each upgrade has been thoughtfully designed to enhance your stay, comfort, and safety, ensuring you leave having experienced a ‘sense of place’. Of course this article doesn’t represent the end, it’s always ‘just the beginning’.
From Aviary to Nursery
We’ve transformed our old aviary into a vibrant nursery. This initiative aimed to explore the feasibility of growing our own fresh produce on-site, aligning with our commitment to sustainability and ultimately enhancing the culinary experience for our guests.
Enhanced Roofs for Greater Protection
In alignment with our updated insurance standards, we’ve covered our traditional thatch roofs with durable Harvey Tiles. These tiles not only retain the charm of our mountain aesthetic but significantly enhance the safety of our structures.
Forest Management for Fire Safety
Safety remains a top priority. We’ve carefully thinned out and trimmed back the forest surrounding the hotel to minimise fire risk, ensuring peace of mind and secure stays for all our guests, without losing the charm of this magical entry to the World Heritage Site.
Revitalised Games Room
Our games room received a complete makeover with fresh paint, new carpeting, a brand-new pool table, and a table tennis table. Guest-taken images now adorn the walls, showcasing the beauty captured by our visitors.
Freshly Painted Roofs and Bannisters
We’ve rejuvenated the appearance of our non-thatch roofs and bannisters, giving these areas a fresh and welcoming look that complements the serene mountain atmosphere.
Improved Hiking Trail Navigation
For our hiking enthusiasts, we’ve installed over 20 new signs along our many trails. Along with our Wikiloc app, there are now clear directions to ensure you spend less time navigating and more time enjoying the breathtaking scenery of the World Heritage Site.
Enhanced Safety with Lightning Arrestors and Gate Lighting
New lightning arrestors have been installed for additional safety during the dramatic and mesmerising storms of the Central Drakensberg. Plus, our main gate now features bright lighting, ensuring easier and safer arrival after dark.
Upgraded Comfort in the 300 Block
Our 300 block rooms now offer air-conditioning (both hot and cold), enhancing guest comfort and ensuring your stay remains pleasant, no matter the weather.
Extended WiFi Coverage
Connectivity matters. We’ve extended WiFi access to our family rooms, allowing you to stay effortlessly connected while relaxing with loved ones. Our team continues to find solutions that will allow us to extend free WiFi to all rooms.
Spa Refreshed
Our spa has received fresh paint and new carpeting, creating an even more tranquil and inviting environment for your relaxation and rejuvenation.
Doubled down on our food offering
Whilst we have always had positive reviews regarding our food offering, we have added more finesse to some of our evening meals, we have improved our variety on our breakfast buffet and have enhanced our Terrace menu, as well as beverage and wine lists.
Our tea and scones are still served twice daily, with homemade strawberry jam and we are working hard to provide some lighter, healthier lunch options as well.
‘Book Now’ button
Finally, we have simplified and modernised our direct booking option online and have integrated with Nightsbridge to provide a more functional format to book and pay online, with recently updated photos of the hotel on our website and relevant OTA’s (Online Travel Agencies).
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Champagne Castle Hotel on your next visit, to experience these exciting enhancements firsthand. Your premier mountain escape has become even more memorable, truly offering ‘A Sense of Place’.
