Champagne Castle Hotel, a Premier Drakensberg Resort, is nestled below the third highest peak in South Africa, Champagne Castle (3377m), part of the main escarpment within the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg mountain range, the highest mountain range in South Africa. Due to its diversity of plant, bird and insect life and the richest collection of San rock paintings in Africa, it has been declared a Mixed World Heritage Site.
For visual impact, recreational variety and luxurious splendour, Champagne Castle Hotel is pretty close to being an ultimate experience. Your stay will be characterised by the proximity you gain to the most dramatic and immediate views of the Drakensberg Escarpment and the ‘Barrier of Spears’. Whether you walk or hike, trout fish or horse ride, play golf or tennis, swim or bowl, everything here has been configured to embrace this unparalleled setting.
Restaurant
Our restaurant is beautifully appointed and faces the mountain and the hotel verandah. It can seat 140 people. All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are served buffet style offering an extensive menu. In consideration of our other guests, we regret no children under 8 years after 8pm.
Dress Code after 6pm is strictly Smart Casual (no shorts).
Bar
Our bar is a wonderful combination of comfort, ambience (open fireplace), mountain outlook and patio access, and is open till late.
Patio
We have a large patio overlooking the pool area with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. It is an extension of our restaurant, lounge and bar areas. A patio menu is available from 10am to 5pm daily except Sundays between 12pm & 2.30pm, while we serve an extensive Sunday lunch in our restaurant).
Lounges
We have two lounges:
CASUAL LOUNGE – Large screen TV, open fire-place and large comfortable couches and armchairs
FORMAL LOUNGE – Intimate and elegant. An adult ‘get-away’ for over 18-year olds. Couches, armchairs, open fireplace. No TV.
Children
Champagne Castle Hotel has long been considered a Premier Drakensberg Resort for the entire family due to the diversity of activities available to both adults and children alike. During school holidays, a kiddies entertainer arranges an extensive programme of activities to keep the children entertained and busy.
In the evening children under the ages of 8 years are welcome in the hotel restaurant between 6.30pm and 8pm and thereafter they have the choice of either partaking in board games or watching DVD’s in our casual lounge adjacent to the restaurant or going to our games room.
Alternatively, children may enjoy an early dinner in the restaurant between 5pm and 6pm. Prior booking is essential.
